The transportation and logistics sector is adding jobs in Nevada and Pennsylvania as two companies announce multi-million dollar expansions in the states.
In Nevada, Schwabe North America, which is a division of Germany-based Schwabe Pharmaceuticals, will open a new distribution center in Reno. The company manufactures and distributes a number of natural supplements such as Nature's Way and Integrative Therapeutics, the Reno Gazette Journal reported.
Mike Kazmierski, president and chief executive officer of the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, said the deal will help seal the region's reputation as a perfect location for logistics and distribution operations, as well as bring 50 much-needed jobs to the area.
"They are a target for us as a high-growth company that is looking to expand their operations from the Midwest to the West," Kazmierski told the news agency.
In Pennsylvania, specialty packaging and logistics company Yourway Transport will spend 11.5 million to expand operations in Lehigh Valley. The move is expected to create 258 jobs, according to the Morning Call. The company said the investment will allow it to provide more temperature-controlled packing and transport services to the biopharmaceutical industry.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, transportation and warehousing are some of the region's fastest growing jobs, as they accounted for 10 percent of all positions created in the Valley last year.
