The increase in mobile website and applications advertising appears to be driving the demand for more marketing professionals with technical skills.

According to the latest WANTED Analytics survey, companies and recruiters placed more than 4,400 online job ads for marketers with mobile skill sets over the past 90 days. The report also found that online postings for marketing professionals with mobile experience jumped significantly over the past two years, with mobile skills now included in 10 percent of all ads in the field.

Areas with the highest demand for mobile marketers were in larger Metropolitan cities including Seattle, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Meanwhile, a new report said the total value of global mobile marketing and the advertising market is expected to grow by an annual rate of 37 percent, to $22 billion by 2016.

Rickard Andersson, telecom analyst at Berg Insight, told Channel Insider the report found there will be a major boom in mobile advertising after years of experimentation.

"The popularity of smartphones and the increasing availability of mobile media that can include mobile advertising are the main game-changers,"  Andersson stressed. "Brands are now progressively embracing the mobile channel, including the entire range of apps, from games and entertainment to utility applications."
