The U.S. plastics industry could receive a boost in 2013 thanks in part to the efforts of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. According to The Auburn Citizen, Cuomo said last month that he will promote programs to help New York develop an educated workforce that features specialists from a number of industries, including the plastics sector.??

New York received more than $629,000 for an advanced plastics project to help local students pursue careers in this segment. The funds will be used to create a plastics technology program at New York’s??Cayuga Community College, which could help the school improve its learning initiatives and attract more students. Meanwhile, pupils can build their skill sets and contribute to the plastics industry over the next few years.??

Berry Plastics Group in Evansville, Indiana, will bolster its work team in 2013. Fox 59 News reports that the company will expand its Evansville operations and is seeking qualified plastics industry professionals to fill a variety of roles.??

“The capital investment we are announcing is in direct support of our strategic goal of accelerating our innovative product development,” Berry Plastics Group CEO Jon Rich told the news outlet.
